A Baby Possum for Christmas

Some time ago, Sasha's latest baby (her tenth) started venturing out of the pouch during the day while she sleeps. However, only today has Sasha decided to sleep in Box 7 where the little one can be seen on the cameras. So now is time for a Baby Possum Alert. Hopefully she will continue to use this box.

Here is a photo of the baby hiding behind Sasha when she slept in the Possum Apartments a few days ago.

Update 21st Nov 2019

Miel has long ago stopped back-riding and no longer shares a nestbox with Sasha.

Update 9th Oct 2019

Koru continues to visit on her own. She is very brave for such a tiny little possum. The photo probably makes her look bigger than she is; she could be held in a cupped pair of hands (although if you attempted to do this you'd probably get scratched and bitten).

Update 6th Sept 2019

There have been no big changes in the possum world since last time I posted - or at least nothing visible to the ignorant humans who probably miss most of what is going on. Nikita, Koru, Sasha, Miel and Bilbo have all been visiting regularly.

Miel is still back-riding on Sasha most of the time. He visited once on his own (pictured above) and rather than make a distress call like babies often do when on their own, he instead hissed to show that even though Sasha wasn't around to protect him, he was still a big fierce possum and not to be messed with.

Update 14th Aug 2019 - Introducing Miel

Sasha's new baby in now back-riding full time. He (I am pretty sure he is a little boy possum) has been named Miel.

Miel (French for honey) is honey coloured and looks like a sweet little possum.

Introducing Koru

Nikita's new baby has been named Koru. Koru looks like a little girl possum. Koru is the Maori word for the spiral shape of an unfurling fern frond and was chosen because when first seen she had her tail curled in a similar shape (even more tightly curled than in the photo below).

Update 5th July 2019 - Baby Possums!

Sasha's baby (her 9th) has just started coming out of her pouch in the nestbox, so now is the time for a Baby Possum Alert.

As a bonus, Nikita has also brought one of her new babies to the house for the first time.

Things are fairly stable at the moment, at least as far as the known possums are concerned.

Update 30th April 2019

There has been a big downturn in the number of possums visiting, for a reason that will be explained later. But first, more pictures of Nikita and her babies Ryder and Rune.

Update 1st Feb 2019

Sasha has finally brought her latest baby to show the humans. This her 8th (known) baby and it looks like another boy possum. He has been named Zak.
